Pyrgos
Pyrgos
lies 22.5 kms northwest of Chora (Tinos Town) and 3 kms from
the port of Panormos. It is one of the oldest, largest and
most important villages of Tinos and the birthplace of such
famous Greek artists as Halepas, Lytras, Filippotis, Gaitis,
Glynis and others. The marble-paved alleys, the Museum of
the Artists of Panormos, the School of Fine Arts, the new
Museum of Marble Crafts, the old stone mills, the highly
original door lintels, the village cemetery with its
magnificent sculptures, the permanent art exhibitions of
sculptures and marble carving, the picturesque village
square with its century-old plane tree are just a few of the
engaging attractions of beautiful Pyrgos. In the summer
months, Pyrgos becomes a venue for important cultural
events. Although the village does not have a sea view, this
does not in the least diminish the unique character of
Pyrgos, which remains one of the most picturesque and
beloved destinations for both Greek and foreign visitors to
the Cyclades.
